When a person passes from this life to whatever is next, they leave behind a space. This space consists of memories that represent what this person was about, what they offered to this world, and how they touched and shaped our lives, be it in helpful or unhelpful ways.
My mind often fills with grief from life’s losses. Family, friends and even people I didn’t know. The memories left behind by these people are thought of often. These thoughts often wander to the indigenous children discovered recently in unmarked graves across this land whose childhoods were stolen, cut short and I realize the lack of memories that they were able to leave behind for their families and people of their communities. Let that sink in for a bit.
This painting is my rendition of Memories left Behind
